What is a canvas painting?

A canvas painting is basically a painting carried out on canvas material stretched over wooden frame supports. We use two different profiles of canvases. We use 38mm depth canvas in most cases however we can also carry our work on standard 18mm depth canvas. We use the highest quality Windsor Newton box profile canvas of 38mm which is a heavy 100% cotton durable canvas double primed in acrylic white gesso before any work is carried out. The canvas material is fastened on the reverse so no tacking or staples is visible on the sides. This allows us to paint the sides to match the rest of the artwork. Most of our deep edge canvases don’t require framing, however if your wish is to frame your art purchase please get in touch with us before purchasing as the artwork will need to be placed either on canvas board or 18mm profile canvas frame.

Why buy a canvas painting when canvas prints are cheaper?

A canvas painting is a unique way to display original art and as Van Marciano Art only produce and sell original hand-painted canvas art, we believe that the textures, look and feel of a real piece of art can never be matched by a mass produced canvas print. Unfortunately many canvas prints are massed produced and sold throughout the retail industry ranging from supermarkets to DIY stores, making them less unique and special in any way. An original hand-painted piece of canvas art will last for many years to come, and with no drastic loss to its value. We issue COA (Certificate of Authenticity) with all our canvas paintings so in fact its value should only increase in years to come.
